Together with her husband of 24 years and their biological daughter, they have welcomed over 55 long-term placements into their home. During this journey, the family formed a special bond with a sibling pair of two girls, ultimately adopting them, which created a joyful family of five with three daughters aged 16, 9, and 5. Her journey into foster care began with her own mother, who experienced foster care as a child. After learning about her mother’s childhood experiences, Meagan was inspired to contribute to positive change in her local foster care system. She reflected, “It was not lost on me how different my life could have been if my own mother had not chosen to break the cycle of foster care in her own life.” Growing up in a small town near Kansas City, Meagan was active in sports such as basketball, softball, volleyball, and track. This competitive spirit has carried over to her children, who participate in volleyball, softball, basketball, and soccer. Meagan has dedicated many years to the education and child care sectors. She has served as a Special Programs Administration teacher in the Olathe School District and has also worked as a preschool teacher. Additionally, she has collaborated with local child placement agencies as a Biological Parent Mentor, assisting biological parents in reuniting with their children after foster care. Meagan is also a Trained Educational Advocate for the State of Kansas, empowering parents to advocate for their children's educational needs. Former children who experienced foster care in her home occasionally visit Meagan, demonstrating the strong relationships she has built with many of their biological parents over the years, with whom she maintains contact. Meagan wisely expressed, “You have to embrace foster care rather than get hurt by it.” |
