Emily Burris
Lifelong friend, foster care advocate, servant-hearted, child of God.
Likes: Cats, cooking, exploring the city, cold brew coffee, rainy days
Dislikes: Hot weather, mushrooms, anything spicy, bad drivers, disorganization
From my earliest days of elementary school, I remember a fire in my heart to make a change in the world, knowing somehow someday, I would have an impact on the lives of others. As I’ve grown up from a small-town girl to living in the big city, I’ve been able to see that dream coming to fruition. I am gifted as a servant-hearted child of God. I am very passionate about helping the least of these. I don't want to lead from an ivory tower, I want to lead from the frontlines, sitting in the dirt with kids in their messiness. It's my passion to show children that they are fully known and dearly loved, worthy, valuable, and chosen exactly as they are.
Being on the board of directors for KC Kansas Angels has allowed me the blessed opportunity to change the lives of kids in foster care on a larger scale. You can find me during events and fundraisers organizing, directing, and managing details. I am driven by a childlike excitement for what we do and a love of collaboration with our community.
Outside of volunteering my faith is a very important part of my life and who I am. I also love traveling to new and familiar places. When the weather is nice, I enjoy bike rides or taking long walks. When it's cold outside, I love a good bonfire or naps by the fireplace. I also have 2 fur babies, Luna and Ella.
My professional experience includes customer service, event planning, Health Care IT, and recruiting. I have a bachelor's degree in Human Resources and Management from Columbia College.
